Using free reports to build your email list should be the primary focus of them. Many Internet marketers also sell affiliate products in their reports. This is a good idea after you have your contacts name and email address.

I have personally found giving away a useful free report to be a great way to add subscribers on a consistent basis. You do not want to try and sell someone before they are ready.

It is interesting that the strategy of list building has been talked about for over 10 years. When I got started part time with Internet marketing in 2002 the so called gurus were talking about the money being in the list.

That really has not changed in my opinion. It may be a little harder to get someone to give you their name and email addess then it used to be in the past. People have become somewhat immune to all of the free offers available to them.

However, most people do understand that anything they subscribe to they can just as easily unsubscribe from. Sell you can get just about anybody to subscribe to it if you have a offer that is enticing enough.

However that is the key point. You must focus on making yourself different from what your competition is doing. There are a couple of simple ways to do this.

1. Subscribe to their newsletters.

2. Visit your competitors websites and blogs.

When you subscribe to your competitors newsletter you can see exactly what they are promoting in it. This should give you some email newsletter content ideas.

When you visit the websites of your top competitors you can see what ezine sign-up freebie they are offering. You do not want to copy them, but this can be a great source of potential ideas.

Ultimately you will want to go back and unsubscribe from some email newsletters. If you subscribe to too many newsletters you can waste a lot of time reading all of the email messages. In my case after several years of being online I have just a handful of regular email newsletters I still like to read.

Using free reports to build your email list is something any Internet marketer can do. Your goal should be to make this a focus on all of your website and blog pages. The report needs to provide unique content and useful information that will be enticing enough to get your website visitor to subscribe to them.
