Outside of the money you are currently making have you ever looked at other benefits owning an Internet business can provide? One thing you should be doing is building assets in your Internet business that will appreciate in value in the future.

Let me give you a few examples of what I am talking about.

1. Your domain name. Domain names are something that continue to appreciate in value if they are hard to come by.

I recently read where John Reese sold Income.com for $1 million. He owns over 15,000 domain names that he purchased many years ago. He also was quoted as saying that in his opinion domain names can continue to be a good investment today.

When you start an Internet business you should pay close attention to the domain name you choose. Even if you never turn your business into a profitable one the domain name may be worth something to somebody in the future.

2. Your email marketing list. I personally know you can ear anna lot of money emailing and your subscribers.

There are a couple of things and make an email marketing list a real asset. One is the relationships that you build with your subscribers. The other is the size of the list and its responsiveness.

As people become more used to hearing from you they will purchase products when you make a recommendation for them. Email marketing does not take much time to do and can pay you a lot of money many times over.

Your email list could be a product you could sell for a profit in the future. If you can document how much money you actually make doing email marketing you could sell your list to another Internet marketer in a similar niche.

3. Sell your website. I have been watching the action at Flippa.com and and impressed at the number of websites that are sold there every week.

How much is your website worth? One rule of thumb seems to be to take your monthly income times 18 months to 24 months to determine the value of your site.

So for easy figuring if you had a website that was earning $500 a month you could expect to sell that site for between $9K and $12K. Of course there are variables that can come into play, but this should give you a rough idea of what your website is worth right now.

This does not mean that you want to go out and sell your site right now, but it definitely is a potential asset to your business in the future.

When building your Internet business pay attention to what you are doing. The small things you do when you start a website going can become real assets in in the future!
