Have you been trying to learn what the causes of autism are, but haven't had much luck locating the answer? Then you are in luck since you are about to find out the answer you have been looking for.

The truth is that the exact cause is not known with any certainty, though numerous studies have been done and continue being done these days. There have been recent studies that suggest that a link can be found between genetic susceptibility and environmental agents.

It is been found that there is no one factor that causes this and it can very easily be caused by a synergy among several different agents. This view comes from the wide range or symptoms and the severity among the people that have been diagnosed with this health issue.

To this day, studies are being done that will help them figure out the exact cause for autism, but the root cause has not yet been located. With the research that has been done in the past, it has been shown that around 90% of the people with autism has a genetic link.

The gene that is being studied is the Engrailed 2 (EN2) gene, which could be accountable for around 40% of autism in different people. It is possible that autism could be caused by the interaction and malfunction from more than one gene.

With many studies being done, there was one that showed three common factors that are of interest to scientists studying autism, which include older paternal age, older maternal age and the birthplace for the mother outside of North America or Europe. The higher paternal age can suggest that there is an issue with genetic material integrity.

There are a few rare cases of autism that appear to be related to factors in the environment. The rubella virus, which can be found and picked up in the environment where someone lives or works may be a cause for autism, though there is no strong statistical information to support this theory.

Pesticides are another environmental risk that could be linked to autism; as with above, there is no strong statistical data to support this theory.

As you can see, there are many speculations about what causes it. Studies are ongoing, but there is no root cause for autism that has been found yet. Now that you have this information about the causes of autism, you are more prepared than other people when it comes to this health issue. Just keep it in your mind, so you will have it in your brain should you ever need it.
