Writing a good resume is not always simple to do, especially if you haven't done this before. Everyone has to know the numerous dos and don'ts for writing a resume.
Once you are aware of the dos and don'ts, you are going to feel more confident that you are going to be able to write the best resume you are able to.
Dos:
1. Use bullet points - Bullet points instead of long sentences is going to make reading your resume easier for any employer. The employers will only spend a short time actually reading your resume and bullets are going to make it easier to show them the most important information they need to know first.
2. Choose the correct format - Not every job is going to require the same format. You have to be sure that you use the right format or you will not be able to get an interview for the job you want.
3. Put important information at the beginning - Since the employer only takes a short time to look at any resume, you have to put the most important information first. This way you can be sure they read it first.
4. Always review - Before you hand your resume to an employer, you have to take time to review it. Check for any errors that you find for punctuation, spelling and other things.
These small details can make the difference between you getting an interview and you not getting one.
Don'ts:
1. Don't lie on your resume - Lying on your resume is a big mistake you don't want to make. The employer may not learn that you lied right away, but they will eventually and this is going to have a negative impact on you and can even end up costing you the job, if you were hired for it.
Always be honest and only give correct information so you have a great chance of getting the job and keeping it.
2. Write using slang or jargon - Your resume has to be professional and using slang or jargon is not going to let you achieve this. Always write in a professional manner so your resume will be taken seriously.
3. Providing information that is not relevant - Don't provide information that the employer doesn't need to know. Only give them the facts and leave them wanting more information.
The interview is where you will market yourself as the best person for the job. The resume is your tool to getting an interview and irrelevant information will not get you an interview.
These are the dos and don'ts that you need to have in mind as you begin writing your own resume. If you do this, then you will be sure to write a good resume that will help you get the interview you need so you can get yourself hired for the job that you want.
